USAID Plastic Recycling Project begins with trainings for informal collectors of plastic waste

On 23 February, 2011, USAID Plastic Recycling Project will organize first from serial of workshops targeting informal waste collectors. It is expected that this capacity building interventions will result with increase in self employment initiatives, joining different models of cooperation and sign contracts with the utility companies or other entities engaged in the waste management system.
Presentations will be delivered by representatives from relevant institutions: Dobre Bosilkovski, PUK Komunalna Higiena- Skopje; Dejan Ivkovski, Ministry of Labor and Social Policy; PAKOMAK- first registered company for managing  packaging waste; Greentech- Macedonia- recycler; Horizonti- micro crediting organization. After presentations open discussion will follow. This will be an opportunity for the informal collectors to communicate directly their ideas and concerns related to formalizing their businesses.
500 informal collectors from Skopje, Kumanovo, Strumica, Bitola and Tetovo will be exposed to basic business knowledge trainings. In each municipality USAID Plastic Recycling Project will implement activities in partnership with local NGO’s. Those informal collectors who will successfully pass the trainings and express motivation will have an opportunity to apply for the grant program. Through the grant program informal collectors will have an opportunity to purchase basic equipment for extending their collection activites.
